ADVANCED GI CLASSES
Wearing the traditional Kimono, or “Gi”, in Jiu Jitsu has some great benefits. The Gi itself has been around for centuries, it has changed over the years to fit the times but its purpose has stayed the same. The Gi is used to assist in learning position, appropriate grips, and even how to utilize everyday clothing in self-defense.
Additionally, training in the Gi opens a lot of doors, because it is a tool in Jiu Jitsu and it helps overall with learning patience, intelligence in the sport, and situational awareness while you are live rolling. It is more difficult to just be explosive and trigger scrambles while you are in a Gi. There is so much more control in a Gi match for you and your competitor and typically, if you fall victim to having the same no Gi explosive mind set in the Gi you will likely gas out and find yourself in a submission.
Here is a great read from the Jiu Jitsu Times for more information on why it’s so important to train in the Gi as a Jiu Jitsu practitioner.

NO GI CLASSES
If you’re a wrestler, naturally you will probably be more comfortable training No Gi. Live training will feel more familiar and you will probably enjoy the fast pace and explosiveness in No Gi training. Generally, anyone who is new to Jiu Jitsu will probably feel more comfortable training No Gi first because, let’s face it, who really wants to wear oversized pajamas while doing partnered hip escapes up and down the mat?
Additionally, if you are a somewhat experienced Jiu Jitsu practitioner who typically only trains in the Gi, No Gi is a great way to get more conditioned for the sport and competition. Because No Gi training goes at a much faster pace than Gi training overall it requires much more athleticism.
